When docked in St Katherine's, we had their commander visit us to see how it worked as they were looking at a good portable system for their own use. Your Thames River Police, when they boarded us about halfway up the river, thought I was joking when they asked to see my nav systems and I produced my iPad running iNavX. Also used it up the English Channel and up the Thames to St Katherine's Dock and then back again to Fort Lauderdale a couple of years ago. So, I rigged up my AIS and navigated solely using my iPad and iNavX all the way to Cape Town with the iPad stuck in a plastic bag. I was told it had "everything on board", but when I took over the boat from the Seychelles CG, I found it had been stripped of all nav aids and gear.
I recovered and delivered Sean Terry's 40' foot mono in the Seychelles last year, bringing it back to Cape Town for the lawyers. Works like a charm and the DY iAIS can also hardwire into most MFD's, which is great for a lot of the "minimal" equipped boats I have taken over the pond. I have been using it for about three years on deliveries, coupled with one of the Digital Yacht iAIS units.
